Meet the Team

Woodside Tattoo is a small team with different strengths and one shared approach: understand the idea, plan carefully, and give clients straightforward guidance.

The People You Will Work With

Mateo Rivera

Owner and Tattoo Artist

Mateo grew up between Woodside and Jackson Heights and started by drawing names, portraits, and memorial concepts for friends long before tattooing became his trade. He is especially drawn to black and grey, portrait, realism, and cover-up projects, and still keeps a paper sketchbook nearby for working out compositions away from a screen.

Alina Chen

Tattoo Artist

Alina grew up in Queens and developed an interest in lettering and illustration through school art programs and years of drawing small personal commissions for friends. She enjoys name tattoos, floral details, black and grey work, and pieces where a simple idea needs careful spacing and placement to feel complete.

Javier Morales

Tattoo Artist and Piercing Specialist

Javier is a New York native who became interested in body art through music, photography, and the tattoo culture he saw around the city. He works across tattoo projects and piercing, and is known within the team for paying close attention to practical details such as positioning, symmetry, reference preparation, and aftercare explanations.

How We Work Together

We work collaboratively without making the process complicated. A client starts with the subject, placement, approximate size, and references. The artist then looks at what the idea needs: more space, stronger contrast, a clearer photograph, different lettering, or a plan for dealing with existing ink. When another team member has useful experience with a particular design problem, we are comfortable asking for a second set of eyes.

We also believe clients should understand the reasons behind recommendations. Saying that a portrait needs to be larger is more useful when we explain that the additional space protects the facial information. Suggesting a darker cover-up makes more sense when you can see how the old tattoo affects the new design. That kind of communication is part of the work, not an extra.
